Or send them a Visa gift card for them to use?

This ain't Olive Garden. It's not a chain. And I don't want to give them a giftcard or Visa card and have it be short. I don't want them to have to deal with paying at all.

I guarantee they still have gift cards.

Gift card is really the only secure way to handle this. The only other thing is to call while they are dining and give your credit card then. That’s extra work for the restaurant and what if they forget? Just give a gift card and be done with it.

A pre paid Visa gift card
and a conventional card was suggested several times upthread, but OP , for some reason, won't acknowledge either suggestion and that a gift card, in particular, isn't available bc it's not a a restaurant like Olive Garden

If you only want to authorize up to $300 then why not get a gift card? Every restaurant does gift certificates, not just Olive Garden. I wouldn’t over complicate this.
