Kind of surreal that the victim/car owner fought back for over one minute. That's ballsy. Also, kind of amazing that the assailant just didn't give up when he wasn't able to get the car quickly.

I’m sad for the stabbed that his fate is in the USAO for saving that woman. He actually pondered for a moment as to whether he should intervene.

It feels like everything is upside down right now. Perpetrators are not being proscuted but the surest way to get prosecuted is to fight back against a perpetrator. Is the idea that people are just supposed to sit back and take it like it’s some form of self-flagellation that will wash away the collective sins of the past?

It’s taking part in the growing progressive thing where talking about crime in DC is bad and “promoting crime.” I’ve personally been called out for mentioning neighborhood crime on a listserv. To these progressives, discussing crime that *actually is happening* is “creating a narrative” that they think is “MAGA,” or something like that. This is the last gasp of the 2020 mania where even whispering a word in public about how police have a role in public safety could get you cancelled.

This thread may well be win the award for most surreal responses. I have never characterized the alleged carjacker as anything other than a human being whose death should not be celebrated. Whether you think he is a good or bad person is of no concern of mine. I just don't believe in taking joy in the death of a complete stranger on the basis of one act.

Why you are complaining about deleted threads in a thread that has, in fact, not been deleted is beyond me. I really do not understand why you are upset that I have looked for more information about this event. Obviously several other posters have done the same (unless someone held them down and forced them to read articles to which they then posted links here).

I can see us being sad had the owner of the car been injured/killed (she was injured) . I can see us being sad had the good Samaritan been injured or killed. But the car jacker who injured the woman in an attempt to steal her car, I am not sure why we are fraught with what category to put him in (assailant or victim).

If the story were to change on a dime and we were to find out the original victim had stolen the car from him, well we could re evaluate. But what is wrong with thinking the car jacker is a bad Bama?

In what way is it bad? Our justice system is broken and criminals know it. Law abiding people need to protect ourselves.

What is the alternative in the moment? Police can't arrive in time. Let the guy beat the woman inside to death?

Don’t need to celebrate death but also don’t need to make the carjacker out as a victim either.

I'm not making the carjacker out as the victim, but it did end horribly for him. If DC really cared (restorative justice wise) they'd realize that deterring car jacking is the best answer all around, rather than sitting back and letting them play out over and over. They often end horribly. I'm not sure folks like Charles Allen care much about victims, but they certainly show concern for criminals as seen in much of their legislation. The horrible consequences all around are on people like him
