Curious what others think about value for a job that requires you to be in office every day 5 days a week vs one with more flexibility and option to work in office when you would like? Is there a dollar number that can be put on a job that requires every day vs the value of remote hybrid type flexibility? Or does it depend on where that office job is and what commute time looks like
I have 2 potential jobs I am looking at and trying to assess the value as the office job pays 50k more but is that worth it?
depends on commute time; family needs (flexibility is key with kids) and how much 50k is worth relative to salary and overall net worth. Plus things like 'in office 5 days but not an issue to leave for an appt' vs butts in seats 8-5. and then the job intangibles (people promotion work load promise etc).
For me it its the difference between a HHI of 100 and 150k I'd do it. If its the difference between 300 and 350k no way. I will say that I made a sideways move--negotiated same salary but have a shorter commute (20 mins) and much more flexibility. I end up going in most days, but it might be at 10 am or noon or not at all some days. Its really being able to plan my work and my life in concert that's key
