Yeah my husband is a reporter who covered the Scouts abuse stories. He will not let our kids participate.
You do you. My kids and are I are camping now with Scouts. When Lab closes we'll still be enjoying the great outdoors and learning leadership and citizenship. And for lower cost.
BTw, if your husband was a good reporter he would know all the changes the Scouts have implemented in last 10-20 years too. There's going to be a whole generation of stressed out, myopic kids from hunkering at home with their iPads because their parents suffered an outdated bias. There's another thread here of parents of adult kids and things they wished they'd done - you'll notice that Scouts was cited several times.
- signed, another reporter

Anonymous wrote:Makes me glad for Scouts. They do camping and outdoors all the time. Yes I know there's a history of abuse, but now they are on hypersensitive to it - and they are still getting it done. Overreactive public school culture will shut down yet another great thing for students and leave it to a private org to provide it. BTW, week at Goshen scout reserve is significantly cheaper than Lab, and kiss do more.

Anonymous wrote:We received word about the cancellation this morning too. I had seen the other thread. I'm disappointed that with over 6 weeks until my kid was to go, that APS couldn't try to figure out an approach with greater supervision in that timeframe before just throwing their hands up and cancelling. It's not like my child was supposed to go next week.

We have this field trip coming up as well, so waiting for more info…
Where is the Oakland school?
Oakland Elementary is in Arlington.
No, that is OakRIDGE.
Lol, I need sleep. Of course, you are right!
So, the incident happened with Oakridge in APS?
It was a sexual incident between students. I don't have more info (and while I understand that there was a lot of curiosity I do feel like even knowing that much is a violation of those kids' privacy, so that's all I want to know).
