Not all are safeties, and some of the details are sloppy (Sewanee isn't in Florida!) but two of my kids' safeties are on the list.

Eckerd on the diversity list and a true safety. Good on aid. Easy access from Tampa. on the water. If you love it, you love it.


Funny you say if you love it, you love it. I think the opposite was true. This was high on my kid’s list during her marine bio phase. She hated the school when we visited. Her disdain was unexplainable, but visceral. I thought it was interesting and had some good features. I can see why some folks would love it.

Try the Northwest SLACs especially Lewis & Clark, Whitman, and Reed.

Marquette is an amazing school. And most of the USA is "covered" in their student population, but don't kid yourself, 75% are from WI/IL.

UMass seems to have decent geographic diversity. They are fairly generous with their OOSers so that might be one of the reasons. We were there over the weekend for admitted students' day and in our tour there were people from Mass, CT, NJ, NC, GA, and Canada. Their dedication to food is also an attraction. I am on a forum and someone from CA said they are highly considering it because her kid has allergies and the UMass dining highly labels everything and offers something for people with all kinds of restrictions.

Florida schools attract people from all over, although they have to maintain a 90% in-state rate across all of their schools. Having said that, many Floridians are transplants themselves so still some geographic diversity.

Right. Just look for any school that has a merit chart based on SAT/ACT and GPA that brings the OOS cost to same as in-state (or close). They will be an attraction for kids from all over who did not get into their state flagship.

Penn state has a lot of geographic and international diversity

This is a good one. also, The New School. Womens colleges in general also fit the bill.

Indiana, Purdue, and Penn State all have pretty good geographic diversity and aren’t as selective if you look beyond the majors they’re typically known for. At IU, for example, the most common state of origin after Indiana and Illinois is California. Many also from mid-Atlantic states, including New York.

It’s definitely not a ‘DCUM standard’ school, but Lynn University draws kids from all 50 states+PR and also has a huge amount of international students too.

I’m looking at it for my junior.

A number of SLACs, especially in the NE.
