Seven cards here! I'm outside of Fairfax County, but have considered paying $27 just to support the system and tap into it when my others don't come through.
I think I used overdrive + freedling when I first started reading on my ipad during covid, but I don't remember ever having an overdrive app, so maybe that's why Libby is fine for me.

You are a person after my own heart. I am a resident of Maryland and I have cards for all of the counties that are open to all Maryland residents (unless it's a county that uses the consolidated Maryland Digital Library because I only need that once) + DC.

I’m a Libby fan and this thread is inspiring me to get a library card at a nearby system to increase my holds.
I also use Hoopla, which has a more limited selection, but you can get what you want immediately with no hold times. I think Hoopla is more annoying since it will randomly log me out and then not accept the password I had been using. That’s never happened with Libby.

I’ve only had Libby and only one library (but mine and child’s cards). Obviously I’m not a very sophisticated user. But I have never seen less intuitive icons and tags and whatnot than Libby. Really awful. What’s the slice of cake?

It's better than it used to be but I'm finding it's a bit buggy. It keeps doing this one thing:
I listen to Book A.
Now I'm listening to Book B, but Book A is still in my library.
While I'm listening to Book B, I'm doing something else with my phone so the Libby app is in the background.
Because I'm doing something else, I miss something in my audiobook, so I need to rewind a little.
I go to the Libby App and Libby says it's having a problem and the book stops altogether and then Libby either reloads Book A or reloads nothing -- either way I have to go all the way back to my loans shelf and reload Book B.
I have two takeaways from this experience, which has been happening for weeks:
1. It's REALLY annoying!
2. Wow, we are super spoiled to be annoyed at this extra 2 minute step when it's pretty amazing that so many books are always available for free wherever we are (but I'm still annoyed by it, while also recognizing how wonderful the whole thing is
)

I haven't made the switch yet because I dread making a change. If you like referring to your history in Overdrive, note this from the linked article:
"Your reading history in the OverDrive app won’t transfer to Libby, but you can export your history from your library’s collection or your list of downloads in the OverDrive app for your records."

I love Libby and I have cards at two libraries (one is my sister's card). It is an extra step but I am able to select my library to put a book on hold even when my sister's library has it shorter. It defaults to the shorter one but you can further click and select the library you prefer.

I agree that Libby is less user friendly than overdrive. I also hate how it looks - so much white space and the icons just don't make sense to me. I also find it clunkier than it should be to switch between the two libraries that I use.
I don't see it as an improvement at all so I don't really get why they are going that direction.
