Is it…regional? It’s not regional to be a good host, no.

When hosting a crowd, you provide enough food for everyone to find something they will enjoy.

Same with us. We want to make sure everyone has food options they like.

I usually do all starches and 1 veg, but no one eats the veg any way.

For the big meals, we usually have three: bread, potato and something else like macaroni and cheese. We have multiple veggies and usually multiple proteins as well as some sort of a fruit salad. My parents were from the Midwest, but moved to New England, where my sister and I grew up. I have been in the DC area for my adult life. There were always multiple starches where ever I have prepared or attended for the big holiday meals. It is part of the holiday meal to have many different options for everyone. It is definitely not regional.
