Nose job is NBD and can hugely improve appearance if done well.

I only know one where it IMO made her look much more ordinary (this is a gorgeous Eastern European blonde)

It’s a very small surgery and once you have a big nose you face isn’t gonna grow into it.

It’s not like a boob job. I wanted one at 17 for my 32AA and by the end of college I was a 32DD.

My husband got a nose job when he was around 20. His parents never thought there was anything "wrong" with his nose, so he got a job as a teen and saved up all his money for the surgery.

I've seen before and after pictures and it sure made a huge difference. He's Italian descent.

Luckily, my teens didn't inherit dad's nose.

OP, Have your teen learn how to contour their nose with make up for now.

I just did one at 37 and wish I had done it 20 years ago.

I know women who got them for HS and college graduation presents

Agree. Face proportions change as faces grow. Plus young teens are self conscious about everything and have a generally wanting to look like all the pretty people on social media.

Points being: 1) their nose and face are still evolving 2) how they feel about their appearance at 14 may be drastically different than how they feel about it at 20

I’m a woman with a big nose (part middle eastern). If asked at 14, I absolutely would have wanted a nose job and would have wanted it to look just like the most popular girl in school’s adorable button nose. But once I got to college, I realized it suited me. A drunk girl i was sharing a taxi with asked me my ethnicity and then told me I looked like a Roman goddess. That was the turning point of how I viewed my appearance. Now at almost 40, I still feel beautiful and I’m so glad I never altered my face.

Op, get her a consult with a surgeon now. Then you’ll have more information to guide your decision.

Fwiw, I know women who had it done and women who wish they had. I support doing what makes you feel confident and beautiful.

Same story except I was 16. I went from feeling like an ugly duckling to a beautiful swan. It had such an impact on my self-confidence. I remember my mom saying if we’re going to do this, we’re doing it right and taking me to consults with two of the top nose surgeons in town. My doctor said he was going to give me an elegant nose that fit my face and would fit my face at 20, 40 and 60.

I am so grateful that I was able to have this surgery. I do believe I would have been a different, less confident, person without it.

Absolutely same here, I would not have been the same person. I have not regretted it for even a single second, ever. (It’s also not something I ever really think about any more, but reading this thread has me thinking about it

Totally. And kudos to you for not going along with your mom’s mean girl behavior. That’s exactly right - it’s right in the middle of your face, it’s not like it’s a feature you can change your hair or dress to minimize.

My cousin had a nose job as a teen and my mom was judgemental about it, and even as a kid I remember thinking, mom, you have a nice proportional nose and an attractive face. You have no idea what it’s like to face the world with Cousin’s old nose.

I'd wait till she is a junior or senior. My nose always bothered me and once in a while people would comment. I''m in my 40s and have never regretted it. Go for a consult. I dont think nosejobs are a big deal. Just make sure your research on the surgeon

I would actually do a plastic surgery consult, and I am a regular fairly crunchy low fuss kind of person. My dad has a huge nose which I did not inherit, but a sib did. I think it is very easy to say “love it!” when it is someone else’s face. A truly honking nose on a face that doesn’t look right with it is a hard thing to live with. There are a lot of people out there who will not see past her nose—harsh, but true based on my sib’s experience.

If it’s truly that kind of nose I wouldn’t make her wait years to do it.

PP here. To answer your question (“best way to help a kid love the nose they have, for now?”), honestly there was zero way my parents - or anyone - could have done this. I hated it, I thought about it on a daily basis, and I wasn’t stupid…it was not a nice nose, it was THE thing that kept he from being/feeling pretty, and nothing anyone said could have convinced me otherwise, although I obviously wouldn’t have begrudged anyone for trying / knew that it didn’t make me unloveable or anything. I guess you could try to show her examples of actresses who have unconventional noses? But I don’t know, I maintain that there’s not anything anyone could have done to make me love the nose I had, for then
