Agreed! Every aspect of a big state school experience is done well there. Very well-rounded.

Haha this is true! I am a graduate and my 9th-grade DD is convinced this is the only school she wants to go to. Which is fine by me, because I loved it. She will likely have stats to be in the mix, but it has become a very tough admit now.

Also, I love that the traditionally politically engaged student body still exists, as evidenced by their turnout for the state Supreme Court seat. I think this makes it appealing for DMV students and it becomes a cycle of alumni moving to DC and then their children going there. I know so many UW graduates out here.

If you ran that new NY Times college tool and put every indicator at the highest importance, so they are all weighted at 10%, UW was ranked 22nd in the country.

Wisconsin is a great college experience! There are lots of kids from the East Coast and every state in the country. The football and social scene is so much fun. There are so many academic opportunities. The city is surrounded by lakes and has tons of outdoor sports. Winter is cold so you have to be able to tolerate that aspect. It is easy to fly to Chicago or Milwaukee and take a bus. Not a big deal.

4.0/4.3, 1530, great ECs, public school deferred EA and then WL. Other strong admits. This is not yield protection, this is competing with the many other strong students from the DMV (b/c so popular here) and limiting OOS students.

Madison is an ideal college town if you are prepared for the cold.

Don't worry. Acceptances are different every year. Personally, It's been a crazy cycle this year (probably was the case the last two years with Covid). I was a PP that posted my kid's stats that were ultimately rejected from Wisconsin. DC had great ECs as well as 300 hours of community service. It didn't work out for my kid at Wisconsin (or Texas, Michigan, Colorado or Florida). BUT, DC was accepted to 7 state schools from across the country. I feel blessed that our DC has options that many others don't have. DC went to a private in DC and wanted to go to a big state school after having a graduating class of roughly 78. My DC is disappointed with the rejections but life goes on and DC will be fine!!!

Big3 private, 3.4 gpa, 33 ACT rejected

Congratulations to your son!!! You should be proud! My DC absolutely loved it when we toured the school. Would have absolutely attended if accepted. Unfortunately, DC was rejected 35 ACT/3.7 UW at a DC private. Good luck to your son!
