It’s a slippery slope for schools (we encourage you to walk out for this protest but not this one. Who gets to decide which causes merit a protest?). It encourages conformity because of the peer pressure to participate. Teaches kids the wrong lessons about the hard work of successful advocacy. When kids see that nothing comes from this other, they get disillusioned and jaded. Meaningfully engage them in how to effect change. Not bullsh*t school walkouts. Absolutely nothing will come from FCCPS kids walking out of classes with their teachers, except a missed day of classes and turning in work before break. This serves adults and not kids.

It should be public now, even if the public spin isn’t exactly reflective of reality.
for HS associate principal?

What did it say? They didn’t send staff an email. I am a staff member and wasn’t aware anything happened.
Apparently a Holocaust survivor spoke but then started going off on immigrants and how they bring diseases and kill babies and a variety of other things that probably could’ve have been vetted.
Between that and the swastika graffiti, not a great look for the school. Good thing a leadership change seems imminent.
I heard it, as a staff member. It wasn’t exactly that. I am surprised they felt the need to put out an email since they didn’t say anything to staff. I thought it was a good presentation for the students. Yes, he said he had concerns about the border at the end and how it will affect the country in the future since other countries don’t have the same healthcare standards as the United States regarding vaccines. It was the last few seconds of an hour long discussion. Many people share that concern.
It’s funny that you’re the only staff member I’ve met that has that particular interpretation. Anyway “foreigners bring disease” is a longstanding anti-immigration trope (ties in nicely with the swastikas, actually), and it’s particularly funny considering US healthcare is a for-profit dumpster fire that cares least about actual healthcare, but go ahead.
I have not spoken to any staff upset over the presentation so we must know different people. Dr. Noonan posted the entire video on Twitter so anyone can watch it. This man spent a lot of time speaking to the students about his life and you are focused on a couple of comments at the end, not the majority of what he said and his story.

1. Where exactly does it say parents must first email their consent?
2. Will student attendance be verified?

Teachers did not walk out or leave. I also do not agree how this was handled but think that is important to note. Teachers did not strike or leave because of this.
