The New York historical society is right across the street from the natural history Museum. They have a great children’s museum on the lower level, as well as lots of things to interest your eldest. And, of course, the playground is right across the street in Central Park.

Question is, for the NYC PP's-will I be able to park around there? I'll be on a road trip so not taking the train in to the city.

There is always some sort of parking around, but it’s usually expensive and a PITA. You’re better off parking the car in one spot (near your hotel or not necessarily near your destination), and taking the subway in.

Natural history museum+ playgrounds in Central Park is my ideal ny day with little kids.
