A lot of the teens in our large, master-planned, affluent subdivision will call an Uber to drive them a mile to a friend's house that's in our neighborhood.

My kids have friends like this. They think nothing of the cost whatsoever, and their parents say nothing and teach nothing.

My DD started driving a month ago. She has since spent a ton of money (her allowance as well as money she had saved previously) on food and Starbucks. It’s pretty ridiculous. Her allowance is supposed to be used for clothes as well as spending money so I imagine that she will eventually realize that the food spending isn’t sustainable.

I’ve never heard the term takeaway before and opened this thread to see if it was a movie or new app.
Yeah, I have a fast food junkie too. It’s social and they crave it constantly. We eat takeout too often but it’s convenient on busy nights. Maybe I’ll start calling it takeaway to see what the family says.

Food is expensive right now. I can see how a pizza plus drink plus tip could come to $27. I’m not really sure why you’re annoyed at that, you told her she could get it. As for the rest? If she’s using her own money and spending time with friends, I don’t think it’s not that big of a deal. And I’m not a big fan of takeout in general, but if my teen was out being social and learning the value of a dollar, seems ok to me.

DS eats a lot of takeout. We don’t cook much and it’s in our budget. He prefers chipotle or a sub. It doesn’t bother me.
