Waitlisted. We are Maryland residents and DC also accepted at Maryland. DC prefers the smaller, more intimate feel of William and Mary though.

Thank you, yes, the programme has an international affairs concentration that he really liked, so... fingers crossed.

My DS was also rejected, but he doesn’t seem upset about it at all. I think he’s already decided on another school that accepted him months ago. His preferred school is a larger, more urban university. I tend to think everything happens for a reason, so W&M isn’t where he’s meant to be - and that’s OK.

She'll go to one of the LACs that gave her a big merit award. She was already leaning against W&M because a few good friends got in ED and she really doesn't want to go to college with HS friends. Personally, I think study abroad + Spring start could help her build a non-HS group and could be a good option but she's already mentally moved on. Her preferred LAC does have some unique things for her major that W&M doesn't offer and it costs a lot less so it's all good.


That should really not be a worry. W&M is large enough for them to hardly ever cross path or be in the same courses. Unless they all pursuit the same major. I am speaking from DD experience that had in her class the largest ever group of 15 kids go to W&M. She rarely sees them on campus and has none in any of her classes.

But then a big merit award is always good, and the if her heart is there, then it will be right choice.

Congratulations to her on having such great options and a sense of what she wants! My own DC had to make that same decision earlier--and felt similar about close friends who got in ED. DC opted for W&M over the LAC and definitely has a different friend group than HS from the very beginning even with the fall start. Interestingly, now as juniors, they more regularly will see each other (like go out to lunch together once a month or so) but they all have found their own circles. But I bet DC would have been just as happy with the LAC.


I think if it was people she just casually knew from HS it would be one thing but one of the kids is her childhood BFF and they both could stand to strike out on their own. And the couple other friends are all in band with DD and plan to continue in college, as does DD. I'm glad she wants to challenge herself to try a new pool and recognizes that it would be really easy for her to stick with that comfortable bubble.
