The VAST majority of sex offenders are male. As PP wrote, why take the risk?

I think there’s a bias against teenagers period in this area. And yes boy teens are even less mature. But most parents I know want a college student, not a high schooler.

I have two sons, whom I love dearly. I still wouldn’t hire male babysitters for them (or their sister), nor do I judge parents who feel the same. It’s not worth the risk.

I have boys and would never hire a male babysitter. Family member was molested by a male babysitter.
As much as I hate to admit it, I was a middle/high school teacher and a not insignificant number of male teachers I worked with were total creeps. Not that i think the majority would have done anything with students but my 60yo married student teaching mentor made (physical) moves on me as well as other much older married teachers throughout my time in education. I have never experienced this much in other scenarios.

Oh- and when I reported the scenario with that student teaching mentor to the male college employee in charge (former elementary school principal) he shrugged and said 'what do you expect?'

Statistics. Plain and simple.

We have a male babysitter and trust him. I understand the bias based on the vast majority of sex crimes being committed by males but also don't feel like it is fair to exclude all male babysitters.

We hired a male babysitter once. He was recommended by another sitter we regularly used. Maybe a year later he was arrested for committing sexual acts against children. He specifically focused on babysitting nonverbal autistic boys bc he could abuse them sexually and they couldnt tell anyone. Photos/videos were found on his computer that he took of the abuse.

Luckily for our son, an adult family member just happened to be visiting us the day he babysat for us. They got a wierd vibe from the sitter and noticed he kept asking my son to go to the bathroom so the family member changed their plans and didnt go anywhere until we got home.

So no, I will never hire a male babysitter again.

+1. When it's my kids, I'm not taking any unnecessary risks. Men perpetrate the vast majority of sexual assaults and crimes. Just not worth it when I have reliable female babysitters.

+1 And for all the cries of misandry, it's DH who is 100000% committed to no male babysitters or au pairs, ever, in my marriage. I'd be fine with it on a case-by-case basis.
