I hope it never happens to me, or to anyone, but it’s not easy to give up on your child. You can kick them out, yes, but I think it’s hard. Most parents also internalize their children’s bad behavior as their own failing, and that’s what you are perpetuating with your statement. Most of the time it has nothing to do with the parenting.

Your kid has no right to physically abuse anyone. The longer the adult “child” thinks they can do so, the more dangerous they become to society. Untreated or under treated mental illness is not a defense to physical abuse. Mental illness isn’t a free pass to physically assault another person.

I would not enable my adult child to engage in criminal activities.

If my adult child was cheating on their spouse, I would tell them to tell their spouse and either file for divorce or recommit to their marriage. I am not going to enable another adult to destroy the life of someone they supposedly love and are in a “committed” relationship with. If they have children themselves, they are hurting their children, also. There is no need to stay married and be unhappy and deceive the mother or father of their children.

If my adult child was stealing from family-I’d report them to the authorities as well. My brother in law’s sister stole from their parents and he filed a police report and she was arrested. She was stealing cash and valuables from their parents to sell for drugs. Parents were elderly and had chronic illnesses. His sister was financially and emotionally abusing their parents, repeatedly, lying and manipulating them while stealing from them.

Why would anyone allow their adult children to hurt others? I don’t get it? Do you feel your special little guy or gal has the right to hurt others and escape from consequence with your support?

If your child hit you, do you not know they are violent? They will hit anyone they feel they want to hit, and are in serious need of correction from people who will show them that hitting other people is not normal or acceptable. Did you not teach your child that hitting another person is unacceptable? If you did, your fully grown adult kids disregarded the lesson, and are a danger to society.
