My problem with the caucus is in a heavily Democratic county, like Arlington or Alexandria, you can only run with the backing of the Democratic party. It prevents any Executive office federal employees forom running as they cannot caucus. I am a lifelong Democrat, but I don't believe in a one party system in Arlington and Alexandria.

Welcome to Arlington where many of us feel the same! There was a good push to remove the caucus a few years ago and the party seemed split. Alas the votes were overwhelmingly to keep the caucus.

Just go to the Arlington Dems Caucus and vote for the candidate you prefer. The problem with the caucus is that its the real election yet only hardcore Arlington Dems show up. What happens during the elections is the Arlington Dems hand out a sample ballot and people just vote in accordance with the sample ballot. Since Arlington leans Democrat, and the school board candidate that wins that caucus is in the Arlington Dems sample ballot, that candidate will end up winning. So go to the caucus and vote.

One of the candidates is a Dem Precinct Captain and the other is a random 22 y/o dude that decided to run on a whim. Why would the ACDC have a problem with one of their own winning?

I'm in independent. I look forward to the candidate forums because hearing the candidates speak directly is really more insightful than anything else, IMO.

Also, there's a 22 year old running? Did not know that.

maybe that Independent could win this time given how bad the Dem candidates are

Doubt they’d break 30%

I consider myself an independent and over the years have signed the pledge and occasionally broken it. It is literally the only way to have a voice in who is on the SB. Now that my kids are out of APS I probably won't bother but I dunno - this 22 year old really should not be on the SB.

I have no inside knowledge but just for fun: I don’t think they picked Angelo, but they prolly feel they could control him if it comes down to that. My best guess!

I expect endorsement will start coming after the forums.
