Thanks, all. This was a fairly exceptional circumstance so I’m going to do more than just say thanks and pay it forward, but it sounds like a small gesture like baked goods or flowers and a personal note is the way to go. Really appreciate the input and I agree that it absolutely takes a village!

Not sure if the help was emotional or they took care of him because you were out of town, but can u offer to have their kid? Or take them all out to dinner, both families and you pay? I don’t think you should do a physical gift.

Oh no, this would be super awkward. If you insist on a gift, have your DD bake them some cookies and write a thank you note. That's all you need to do.
This!! Please don't give them a gift. We had a fried do this to us and it made us feel like the paid help. You don't pay for friendship, you give your friends a heartfelt thank you and return the favor when the opportunity arises.

It's ok for friends to help you out on occasion. It's ok to ask for help and receive it.
