My family did as well, although it was several years ago. They have added staff since then so perhaps it's better now. But the director was a total nightmare.

Agree. Our experience was more recent, but we were incredibly disillusioned with the nature preschool at Nature Forward/Audubon in Chevy Chase. We are big supporters of outdoor and nature preschools and initially loved the campus and preschool classroom. But we were so dissatisfied with the curriculum, the way that the staff interacted with the children, and the professionalism of the organization and administration as a whole - in short, everything about the program. In hindsight, we should have paid more attention to the fact that the nature preschool is not accredited by NAEYC nor is it a Certified Nature Explore Classroom.

It's not daycare. It's a true preschool (which means like a 9-1pm MWF type option).

What is wrong with Europe? I feel that kids here are kept inside a "glass house," even outdoors. Kids need to learn to get up after falling down. When they grow up, they can take responsibility, open businesses, and overall not be afraid of life.

Kids need to be kids, no?

Also, numerous studies have shown that letting kids outside to get dirty and play in all (safe) weather leads to them developing better immune systems (combatting allergies, asthma, and other immunodeficiency diseases). This is how they do it in Europe, and this is why Europeans are generally healthier and live longer lives.

They historically taught “how to think, not what to think”. That concept is long gone. Today they’re a sweet talking propaganda machine. Kids are afraid to say the wrong thing. “Free thinking” is no longer tolerated. Some families have felt forced out as a result.

Temple Emanuel in Kensington has a great natural playground and they spend a lot of time outside.
