I don’t get why people think it’s okay to craft a dog most of the hours of a day, is cruel.

+1 unbelievable the way some people in this area justify crating their dogs day and night

As a puppy, my dog was crated at night and when we weren’t home. When we were home but couldn’t supervise him, he was in our kitchen which is just off our main room and DH’s office. It was 100% fine. We gave him a treat if we went in / out of the kitchen and he was happy.

We got a second crate and attached an ex-pen to it for daytime use. She he could sleep in the crate if he wanted but also venture out and have a bit of space to move around.

We don't use a crate and our foster puppies and our own dog have done well baby gated in the kitchen.
Puppies will be puppies but make sure there are plenty of things to occupy them.

Yes we’ve never crates our dog in the day, even as a puppy. We keep her in our kitchen with the doors closed when we’re not here; she has her dog bed there.
