Did you get in the schools?

Why are you bumping a 2-year-old thread? Aren’t two FA threads in the last few weeks enough?

3 year old thread.

When these people make a giving circle level donation so they can be listed in the annual report, I will be even more curious.

At ours, multiple years of tax returns and some evidence of how much is in savings. I believe this is on the lower end in terms of paperwork required by different schools.

In your example ... if they received FA but then give a big donation, isn't that "giving back" as FA recipients are always told they should?

Not asking for your opinion or judgement. I just know that people have applied for FA at more and less than 300 and was letting people know.

Thanks for letting us know. That's our HHI and we get aid at a private ES. If we don't get aid when applying to HS then kid will go to public.

Same and we got off the waitlist. Granted, we have 2 kids in private, but it was a very welcomed surprise! A reminder that it never hurts to ask.

How much aid did you get?

10k off 30k. Older child attends a different private and doesn't receive aid.

I'm curious about this sibling question too.

Can anyone share an experience if they received aid for one of their children and then how that percentage changed when they applied a second child? For example if they were getting 50 percent aid for their oldest child and then applied the sibling, would the siblings aid be more than 50 percent?

It’s not just about income. People have drastically different savings in the same income and I know that’s also a big factor.

We make 200K and have one in private. We did not apply for FA. I know I can make the numbers work, so I wouldn’t feel right applying.

Don't be a martyr, talk to your school before next year. Unless you have a high net worth it support from family members in which case it makes sense.

Sorry, I was a little unclear. We’ve already been full pay for a year, our kid isn’t just starting. So we know it’s fine. And no, no family support or wealth. Quite the opposite. I’m not a martyr but I am glad to be able to leave the FA for those who really need it (which was us right up until last year.)

We make $440K with a $160K tuition bill and we applied for and got aid. Sure, private school is a choice but so is the school's decision to give us aid. We didn't wrestle or steal it from them--they consider us appropriate for aid under their aid formula.
