Bounce house and party rental companies, caterers, and other seasonal businesses, such as ice cream parlors, water parks, and amusement parks. They are ALL hiring.

Any suggestions? I keep telling him to look at retail, but of course if I say it, then he does the opposite. Sigh.

He listens to my DH (his dad) more than me, so I'm hoping people here have some helpful suggestions that I can pass along through my DH.

TIA!

Your little boy is spoiled rotten. He knows he doesn’t need to work.

Have him apply as a food runner, host, or dishwasher at a restaurant with a big patio.

Anything public-facing is too dangerous nowadays if you’re in a city

Seasonal nursery or landscaping. This post prompted me to search teen jobs on indeed for my 15 yo who would like this but is a year too young.

A lot of jobs are 18 and over these days. Definitely landscaping.

My son worked at a country club in the pool cafe. There were kids there but he had limited interactions with them.

Lifeguard.

Also check and see if your state has any summer programs for youth jobs. It’s also worth checking at his school for information re: summer jobs programs and summer internships.

Does he like dogs? My kid puppy sits for two rescue dogs. You can also walk them and stay over night. People pay really well.

Anonymous wrote:Last summer, my son was unable to find a job putting in loads of applications through Indeed. He was able to get some interviews, but many places aren't looking to fill positions just for the summer.

I would advise looking for a job now for limited hours that will continue through the summer. If possible, apply directly on the company's website and look for in-person hiring events in retail, grocery stores, and restaurants.

Also, try applying in person for locally owned businesses. My son's experience applying in-person last summer was that most businesses told him to apply online.

+1 the national chains online applications seem to be a huge black hole, despite signs up saying they are hiring.

Also, he should ask his friends for recommendations. My son worked at a local bakery and they only hired teens referred by others on staff.

Landscaping or retail at a local small business (think restaurant or ice cream shop).
