Because deciding to go with an Irish Wolfhound instead of a Jack Russel Terrier is just like marrying a 90 year old so you can snaffle his kids’ inheritance
People usually love their dogs and want them to live as long as possible, dum-dum.
It doesn’t matter how long you want your large breed dog to live, it’s never going to live as long as a small breed dog. And if you’re trying to narrow down what kind of breed you want, you’d be nuts not to take that into consideration.

I did when I started WFH 10 years ago and I will say that the barking was a real issue for several years. Dog barks loudly, unexpectedly at various times throughout the day and I had to keep muting calls. You should get a feel for your employer's tolerance for stuff like that before committing.
But I do love the company and the reason to regularly leave the house for walks.

it's not for very long, but new puppies are a LOT of work. basically, dogs can hold their bladder roughly for an hour for every month they are alive. so if you bring home an 8-week-old puppy, they will need to be potty trained, and also need to empty their bladder AT LEAST every two hours. a puppy needs to go out as soon as they: 1) wake up 2) stop playing 3) 15-25 minutes after eating or drinking. And then there is the training to tolerate a crate, to walk on a leash, to not bite, to not jump on people, to not jump on furniture, to not eat the furniture, etc.
puppies are about the same amount of work as babies, except they are ALSO really mobile and have razors for teeth and nails. otoh, a mature dog (1 year+) may actually be able to be left home all day without issue. when i had a new puppy i had an understanding boss and did WFH for half-days, and then moved to going home to walk the puppy mid-day after he was about 5 months old.
