Thank you for all the really helpful advice and suggestions. He has been a stay at home parent - kids have had some special needs that made it difficult to have both parents working.

If there are any small accounting/bookkeeping firms in his town, they might be a good place to look.

Have him set up an account on Linked In and start connecting. I know it feels awkward, but he should let people know he's looking. Are you a member of a church or synagogue? Does he do any volunteering at the kids school? Put those on linked in. Connections lead to more connections. Try KForce, Kelly, Cordia. Start looking at average salaries for different types of jobs so he knows what to expect salary wise. Get the resume together and out to these different recruiting companies. He doesn't need to apologize for the fact that his spouse was the breadwinner while he was primary caregiver.

Accountemps, Robert Half, Keepers. If he can get a temp entry role in AR/AP, that can help him break in to a company.
