Walking of any type burns calories....therefore it is exercise. Just like any other exercise, you can vary intensity.

I dont count incidental walking, like while shopping or anything throughout my day. A couple times per week, I go on an hour-long walk. I count this as a rest day, but I count the walk as exercise, if that makes sense.

I walk four miles in about 57 minutes. It counts.

No. I walked a lot when I lived in NYC. Like miles and miles a day. Was still totally out of shape when I tried to go running. Running helped me get in better shape. Even more, yoga helped me build muscle. I’m of the kind that walking is not remotely exercise because it neither increased my heart rate nor built my muscles. I get much more results from running and yoga. Some hilly bike riding too.

I count it. If I’m not motivated to do a hard workout, I can always be motivated to go for a walk. We have a lot of hills in our neighborhood. If I’m walking fast enough, my heart rate can get up to 150-160 (only up hills and walking fast).

I combine getting 10k steps with strength training and I’m 100% in better shape than I used to be.

I think the better question is - if I didn’t walk, what would I do instead? Would you actually run/do CrossFit/HIIT, etc? If so, great. But if instead you would beat yourself up about not doing those other workouts, then go for the walk and call it a win. At the end of the day, you’ll be healthier, which is all that matters.

A 5 mile walk on the treadmill with speed at 4.5 mph and incline at 10 for the duration - yes.

I love all the tough guys on this forum trying to show how fit they are. LOL.

It's definitely exercise. But it's probably not enough if it's your only exercise. Weight training is a good idea too.

What?? That’s actually really tough. I challenge anyone to walk 5 MILES a at a 10 incline 4.5 speed. That’s really, really tough.

It’s about the best thing you can do for your body so whatever you call it, it’s good!

100% it is. I’m injured right now and in rehab mode. I’m otherwise a competitive middle age amateur endurance athlete. Sometimes you just gotta walk a few miles and take in some sun (like today).

Sure, all movement counts as exercise.

Yes, but my neighborhood is on the side of a mountain and the hills are 🥵. When I walk around the soccer fields where my kids practice I have to walk faster for it to register as exercise on my Apple Watch.
