This 100%. My STBX thought his little diversion was just that. Well, he lost job, his family and his self respect. And there is no guarantee his exAP affair partner is done making him pay for ending it. He nows lives in a self loathing nightmare waiting for the other shoe to drop. He said it was the worst mistake of his life and he wishes he could back and change everything. So, my advice is get some counseling and do the right thing - work on your marriage or end it. Having an affair sounds fun until you lose everything.

My suggestion is to compartmentalize so it doesn't get emotional. Find someone in a city you visit often (business trips). Don't communicate on a daily basis. Just communicate when you are in town.
