I think it becomes a habit after buying candy for kids in school.

But you are buying candy for them to do valentine exchange at school and your kid eats candies they get from their friends. I would find it weird weird to get a box of chocolates and gift to my kid to eat! I do buy something for the family not specifically to kids. I don't think I will suddenly start a valentine tradition when they are off to college.

I face time with my two adult kids about once a week at their request, sometimes we even invite my ex in to the chat. So we have a good relationship that doesn't require any of us to send each other Valentine cards or candy.

No and I didn't give them anything when they were kids either. I did help them get some valentines together to bring to school. I think valentine's day is a holiday recognizing romantic love and it would be inappropriate to give something to my kids. I don't really even understand why kids give each other valentines when they are young.
