Ironically, it's precisely because the U.S. has relatively weak anti-corruption laws and enforcement, that we're in the situation we're in now politically. Letting the balloon gather and (presumably - since assume it would be difficult to jam) phone home to watch and learn what intel it's sending means that it is Mission Accomplished. That's it. It's done. It's over. They won't need that balloon anymore.

If that information is used to make accurate targeting of anything / anyone; guess what. That's called an "intelligence failure".

Of course it is absurd because airspace is sovereign while the waters patrolled are legally open waters. But I bet it is China acting up because of the SCS and Taiwan.
