It started during pandemic when people were isolated and fed on insecurities of people scared by both COVID and new vaccines. Facebook was shown to disproportionately gove platform to Q Anon nonsense though they used other social media platforms as well.

They also spread a lot of lies about fact check non profits so that you could never provide them with factual

The irony of for Catholics going full Q after the anti vax stuff - The Pope issued a strong statement pretty early on advising the faithful that they should get vaccinated as a matter of being pro life and saving vulnerable people Close to them from illness and death.

Conservative Republican Catholics hate the current Pope and think they are smarter/more godly than him.

Yes one friend from high school cut ties with me for not going along with the crazy conspiracy theories.

The only ones I corrected with fact checks were the COVID vax ones and this made her furious - like we are on enemy sides.

The family and friends I know who went W all get their info mostly from Face Book and Twitter. I think younger people probably prefer different social media. Not sure Tik Tok and IG are as bad for misinformation
