If my direct report did that, their path to internal advancement would be over and their performance reviews would start getting steadily worse

When is the superbowl? The main problem is that you are lonely. You shouldn't be this excited to go to your husband's staff party. I get why you were uninvited even though it was super rude. Do you have any friends of your own?

That’s really rude. I don’t have any suggestions though other than do you have other friends you could do something with? Invite to your house? Kids friends? I don’t care about football and my spouse and I both do shift work so not going to to a party or doing anything together because we both work tomorrow.
