Math or physics major, not interested in CS or coding or engineering-think she probably wants to end up in finance or maybe medicine.
Wants a "fun" school-good school spirit.
She's a social kid -loves social media, popular culture, fashion, etc
Wants either a good college town or urban environment
Size of school doesn't matter
very hard worker but is tired of the grind that high school has been. It's one of those 4 hours of homework a night high schools.
Wants the time to actually have interests outside of academics in college.

Anonymous wrote:I question your DD actually being interested in working in finance, yet wanting to study Math or Physics. That sounds an awful lot like a parent pushing them to get a STEM background and then try to work for a hedge fund, but not something any HS kid would magically think on their own.
If she is truly burnt out by HS homework, then I doubt she is going to enjoy a Math or Physics college pathway.

Emory and WashU are harder to get into than Berkeley. Berkeley with a 14%acceptance rate vs 10 for WashU and 11 for Emory.

UT, University of Washington (for STEM applicants), UNC...these are all states that are significantly restricting OOS applicants (and I am sure there are many others), so they honestly seem tougher than many top privates for an OOS applicant even though they are probably a slam dunk for DD if she was in-state.
