It has to do with the pools ability to remove waves/wake from the swimmer, so a combination of water temperature, deep water, a strong gutter system, and bulkheads for the water to move at the turn/start end.

If you've ever watched summer league 15-18 boys 50 free in a 6 lane rectangle, you'll see the wake of the swimmers bounce off the wall and right back to the swimmers, this should not occur in a 'fast' pool.

PWSC is far but that is a great pool to swim at.

True, too deep and it slows them down the kids that have to swim it. Most courses will avoid the well if big enough.
