Is this a hypothetical? How do you know the kids are repeatedly asking? If you know that, do you know what answers the parents are giving?

+1. If you are close enough to know these details then you know the answer. Or you suspect.

Because the parents are exhausted from stressful jobs and don't want to chauffeur in the evenings.
Because the kids have wanted to do 203875 things in the past and each time it's turned out to be a disaster where they wanted to quit during week 2
Because their life is good right now, so why rock the boat?
Because the family values creative time finding your own entertainment vs. scheduled activities
Because they like having family together time in the evenings

Who knows? Either ask them if you're close friends and willing to help make it happen for the kids, or let it go.

I have a 6yo who does not do scheduled activities because he does not want to. I do not take offense at this post.

What the OP says could be a complete fabrication, or she could be vastly over-estimating their finances and erroneously assuming they are able to get on that activities hamster wheel. Who knows what's really going on except the OP is way out of line and too deep into someone else's business.

I don’t know anyone like this with kids over the age of 6 or 7.

I'm guessing OP's kids have been vocal that they don't want to be in all these activities, and then when OP meets parents who respect their children's precious and finite childhood leisure time, she feels guilty.

Some people just aren't fans of organized activities and think school is enough education.

Just imagine the breathless call to child protective services: "I'd like to report a wealthy family in the DMV who hasn't signed their children up for sailing lessons and chess camp! I have witnessed with my own eyes these poor children playing Legos outside of a $5000 afterschool Lego camp! Please save these well-fed children who are cared for at home when they are not in school!"

Yes, MYOB. Though, if I were speculating, I’d say that whichever parent normally does the organizing got sick of doing it all, told spouse that they needed to take it on, and spouse fell down on the job.
