I gave them my insurance company's phone number to check that yes, I'd reported it, and showed them the pictures of the note (but 2003, so the back of my digital camera ) and they decided it wasn't a hit and run and left me alone.

It was one of the humiliating experiences of my life.

This happened to my son once. It was a minor scrape (parking the car) and he left a note. The person called him and he said during the call (as I instructed him) that I wanted to cover the cost to repair without involving insurance. When the guy realized it was a teenager, he said, "don't worry about it." And that was the end of it!

This happened to me the other day! I was also on a narrow DC street squeezing by a bro driving and texting and videoing at the same time.

My dark-colored car had no marks, the other car was a little scuffed. I left a note with my # and the date/time, then snapped a photo of the car.

There were people around, but I would have left a note even if there weren't. A woman who was standing nearby and saw the event told me it was no big deal, which made me feel a little better. It wasn't her car, though ... So far no phone calls.

My kid minor scrapped car. He then called demanding cash. Meet him in person or he was going to Jack my rates. Did not want estimate or car fixed. I delayed going by a day as had a work meeting and he called my insurance.

Which in turn got my rates jacked. I tried to pay him but was so sketchy. He then disappeared leaving me with a zero payout open claim on an at fault accident.

He ended up no money, car not fixed and my rates jacked up.

I left a note on a car I dinged in a parking lot on my professional letterhead once as that was the only paper I had in the car. It turned out the owner had a brother in law who was able to repair the tiny ding free AND, in a crazy coincidence, she worked in a related profession and said she was “so grateful” I had left a note that she sent me many thousands of dollars of business over the years. Such a feel good story to me!

Always take pictures of the damage with your phone. You can then send it to your insurance provider. They can then compare your pictures to their personal inspection.

Where do you put the note? Under the wipers?

My DD dinged a car in a parking lot. I was getting ready to leave my contact information when the owner came out, so I gave him my name and phone number. He called a week or so later and requested a very reasonable amount for repairs, which we sent him.

Sure I could have told DD to drive away. But that’s not the lesson I wanted my kid to learn, or the person I want her or myself to be.
