Dying. Most of these so called "trend searches" probably derive from DCUM when someone asks "What is the best luxury sneaker to buy?" and a bespectacled lawyer looks up from juggling her partner meetings, her nanny and signing up for summer camps and goes-- WHAT there are luxury SNEAKERS? I gotta see this.

So I bet it's just general incredulity in this area amongst the highly intelligent about what things are luxury and a scholarly but dispassionate interest in WTF.


I think it's even way less interesting than that. How many of those searches are for "luxury apartments" (aka the marketing term for virtually any newish construction, and of which DC has an unusually large amount)?

Surprisingly, the best way to check for luxury obsession in a given area is to sample the sewage and count how many diamonds were accidentally ingested and pooped out.
