I’m from PA. An OOS student living on-campus would be utterly miserable at a satellite campus.

Was accepted at JMU and is waiting on Pitt. She does not want to go to PSU Altoona.



I am from PA and no way would I agree to Altoona. I would call admissions and try to push for Main Campus as there is no harm and they like the extra tuition. Everything is a negotiation. I would also not do JMU. I would consider Pitt esp if your child is interested in anything in the medical field.

DD is in 1230 SAT and 4.2 weighted GPA. We only have a $10k merit aid at Delaware so far. Still waiting on a UVA acceptance, which I'm doubtful.

Their common data set shows they give very little merit. I found useful merit info for schools by googling “name of school” and “common data set.” See page 19, which is where non-need merit data is shared.

Penn State was too pricey for us, so I steered kiddo away from there to apply elsewhere.

Congrats! I bet she went TO. That score is really low to get into University Park. Not low for the 2+2 program starting at a satellite campus.


No, she got into University Park. Just asked and she did not submit SAT.

not recommending this, but two mediocre students from OOS HS 3.0 and below ur SATs denied admission to main campus last two years. One needed to do summer program, and one only got in altooona. Both moms complained loudly and nonstop. Both kids granted regular admission - it’s a bit of a joke now amongst the students - “just have ur mom complain!”. The two kids are both athletes and there is clearly an air of entitlement around this situation

I would definitely pick JMU or Pitt over Altoona.

Not that it matters for OP and her DC, but this was my thought, too. Those stats are low for main campus. Someone above posted something about “false hope”. OP, it may help others to have realistic expectations if you tell us which campus and if spring or summer start.
