They lowered the bar and made tests easy so everyone wants to try (admission seems to be hit or miss). Naturally, number of applicants will increase. You find comments on this board where parents are just asking to apply. Evaluting these many apllication will be nightmare. Hope FCPS publish statistics on it rather than beating the drum of how more schools are sending students!

You really believe the essays are evaluated? I think they throw a dice and the kids getting 6 and above get-in (1 point for URM, 1 for each experience factor, 1 for under-represented school, are added to the number the magical dice shows). Real easy for the gatehouse staff. The effect of this is the "hit or miss" you describe.

The main objective of the test is to NOT be able to differentiate. The competence with which FCPS is doing this is pretty impressive. I wish they showed similar competence on other things - like educating children.
