Every girl but one we know at DC's school chose Blair over RM. Handful of very smart math team girls who did not get into Blair wound up at RM.

I would contact the coordinator and ask but it doesn't move. DC doesn't know anyone who got off the waitlist but then again DC knows few who were on the wait list.
I know one kid who got off the waitlist very late. Coincidentally the parents kept in close contact with the magnet coordinator in the weeks before school started, checking on status and making it clear they would accept, and then a place opened up.

I know of a case from last year where student was invited to the program from the wait list in very late Aug. I think technically the student list needs to be finalized first 2 weeks of the school year. Some kids start at Blair but change their mind and transfer to home school. If someone does it during the first 2 weeks of school the program can reuse the spot.
