What's the rationale for maintaining these strictly merit-based systems for a select group of magnets when MCPS is moving all the others at other grade levels to a strict lottery system once kids qualify? Does equity not count for some schools?
The lottery should be removed from MS too. It completely dilutes magnet programs in the name of equity. I hope my kid completes HS in MCPS while merit still counts for something.

Nice. That was my kid last year. Loves the choice. Long days but they're managing their own time well. I just need to make sure I'm up and ready to get to the bus stopDid your kid also come from Clemente?
Kinda off-topic, but why do you need to be 'up and ready to get to the bus stop'? Do you have to drive your kid to a bus stop?
Yes... it's about a 40 minute ride on the bus, pick up is 6:30 about two miles away from us. I normally get up at 4AM, kid gets up a little after 5. I try to get us to leave a little early so we get a few extra minutes to just talk while we wait for the bus. Sorry if I made it sound like I dread it... I actually love the few minutes of extra time that I get with my kid.![]()
