I am the older woman. I really like this approach. Do not be accessible at all for talking or listening.

I set up a home gym in my basement during covid. Frankly I don’t know why i didn’t do it to begin with

I doubt you have all the weights and quality equipment unless you shelled out tens of thousands of dollars. You have a leg press? A squat rack? 45lb weights and under? A cable machine? A calf-raise machine? Abduction and induction machines? A lat-pull down machine? Leg curl machine?

Some of us take this seriously.

dp you can get a good workout without a squat rack, a cable machine, calf raise machine etc.

I guess it depends on your goal. I’m a female who “bodybuilds”. So are most of the people at my gym. We couldn’t afford to do what we do in the gym, at home. It’s just a very closed minded comment to make to say “how are they surviving”. They are surviving very well!

I understand for you need these equipment but, op didn't indicate that she was a body builder.

I love how you think shelling out thousands to set up her own gym in response to some creep not leaving her is her only viable option. F that! Tell her to get lost.

Great advice so far !

If you do not want a confrontation for some reason, could you change your workout time ?

Does the gym have another location convenient to you ?

I am 100% in favor of telling this person that you do not want to be disturbed during your workout, you're happily married, & he is annoying you. Follow up with gym management. You may not be the first person that he has bothered at the gym.

Too many words..This is what I would say "I got this" and "please let me get back to my workout and stop bothering me " If you keep bothering me I will report you to the management. Do not mention "mom' duty or how you lose momentum. HE DOES NOT CARE

No. Men like this are using your "I must be nice" default to their advantage. You do not need to be nice to him. I'd be direct. Especially because this is happening in public. It's good if he thinks you are a little crazy. The "nice" people are still targets to be bothered.

He’s a creep. He’s testing the water to see if you will bite. Commenting on your body was completely inappropriate.

You need to speak to the manager at the gym to inform them of what’s happening so that when he does come back with body comments that they can back you up. You tell the creep not to comment on your body.

The PPs are right but I would try to avoid being confrontational just for the sake of keeping being about to workout comfortably.

"I'm happily married and not interested."

Of course, if this doesn't work, I would be blunter and ignore him.
