People criticize the song as always being about "trucks, guns and dogs" or something like that. You need to find the ones that actually have meaning

Also, avoid the "twang" singers

Garth is always a good place to start since his voice is beautiful, but start with something like 'if tomorrow never comes' or 'shameless'

PP again, and I realize now that 2 of 5 songs I recommended were written by rock/pop artists (Bruce Springsteen & Billy Joel), so maybe I'm not actually the biggest country fan

But that may be the way to go. Songs that blend with a genre they already are familiar with

Smokey Mountain Rain - Ronnie Milsap

Love this song and I don't do country music.

Taylor Swift’s country stuff. Mean in particular.

Loving Ashley McBryde lately. Livin Next to Leroy is one of the best country songs in I don’t know how long. Uptempo but not fun. El Dorado is upbeat and fun.

Any Dixie Chicks - now just The Chicks. Gaslighter is a banger and the whole album is great. Truth No. 2, Goodbye Earl, Ready to Run, If I Fall, Everybody Knows, Long Time Gone are great older upbeat fun tracks.

These are examples of country music songs that have the county sound but meaningful, emotional lyrics.

These are honest songs and don't have the typical imagery in country music which often makes the songs sound like they are pandering, or parodies of their genre
