But the classes are in the afternoon. Slightly smaller choice of classes.
It's a way to offer admission to students who would otherwise be deferred because of slightly weaker test scores or GPAs.

Do not factor it in decision of whether to go to UMD just because there is a sting. If it is first choice, consider it a win and celebrate!!!

Why? Personally, I'd rather my child have the option to go at all (should they choose), and I knew that their stats were not an automatic admission for fall.
The other option for the "spring start" (but really fall start) kids isn't denial (UMD needs the tuition), it's acceptance. This is just a shady play by UMD to game the rankings.
Anonymous wrote:DD got spring admission a few years ago and chose to attend Freshman Connection. There is really zero downside unless your child is an early bird who wants morning classes. The kids still arrive on campus in the fall, live in the dorm and participate in all campus life. Nobody knows who is freshman connection. In the end, it was a great way to transition to college as the classes are much smaller and they have better supports. DD ended up with all As that year and had fantastic instructors. She had no issue transferring into her LEP major.

Not sure she'll go.
Great stats but I think it was the SAT score. UMD may not want to include in US News stats.
Thats a great SAT score and grades. Spring Admission is absurd but I'm assuming they do it to balance out those who drop out mid-year.
+1. Thank you. It is sort of nuts. DD knows kids who didn’t do as well as she and were offered fall admission.![]()
It may be they only accept so many from each high school and your school has lots of qualified kids applying. Tell her congratulations. She got in. Good for her.
Interesting and logical theory. Is she from Whitman or similar?

They can attend in the fall but it's called spring admission?
