You are using the Niche rankings which are pure garbage? If so, Potomac still ranks ahead of Maret, GPrep, Landon etc….

No kid wants to go to Basis. Only if their mom makes them go. Nice office building, in and office park, no campus to speak of. No sports teams and no social life. Yeah, sounds like a great place to send your kids…

I’m sure education net Potomac is better period, and will have a better balance of social skills, campus life, and extracurricular activities.

Why did you hire a consultant coming from a K-8? I say this very genuinely curious. We have a current 7th grader (who will be applying to that exact list) and I assumed the school did a sufficient job such that we don't need external help.

Keep in mind your child is competing mainly against the other kids at their school. Your k-8 will definitely help you, but they have to look at the desired schools of all the kids in the grade and sort of advocate based on who is applying to which schools so as many kids as possible get in somewhere thats generally in their top 3 schools, not necessarily prioritizing your child getting into their first choice. The consultant will look out for your kid's best interest. We found our k-8 was less nuanced when describing schools than our consultant which helped us to better finalize a list of where to apply.

No this person is wrong. Our consultant said the same, with Holton being the easiest out of these to get into. My DD got into Holton with all As and one B+. High SSATs and solid extracurricular. I think your DD has a very good chance of Holton. Really hard to say about others.

Holton takes about 20 girls for 9th - admission rate should be around 16%.

Potomac takes 35 CoED for 9th so assume 18 girls - admission rate was around 9% last year.

For 9th grade there are about 30 spots. 10 for recruits and 20 for the rest of the pool.

They will get about 300 applicants for those spots which is about a 10% acceptance rates. So I would not call that a slam dunk in any way….
