NP. +1 for getting the heck out ASAP. The school is rudderless. The Board has their heads stuck in the sand; they have no clue what has been happening on their watch. The classroom management is terrible. The academics are sub-par - way worse than you realize until you get out.

THIS. NP here. Both 3rd and 4rth grades were complete chaos in terms of behavior issues for my DD at TR. save your own sanity.

If you have sibling pref at a middle, switch to your IB DCPS. We left TR after 2nd. So glad we did. 3rd was pretty rigorous so we were glad to be at a school with a solid curriculum. My child made friends quickly at the new school and barely remembered TR by 4th grade.

NP here--we left TRY after 3rd for our IB (L-T) and wished we had left sooner. One of the issues that became clear to me after we left TR is how little independence they instill in students as they get older and mature.

What is community meeting?

It’s a weekly assembly with singing and different classes facilitate. It gives every student one time during the year where they read a line into a microphone. But downsides are that it is really hard to hear, it is an hour every week, the older kids don’t seem to get much out of it and look bored. More than anything happy and cheerful rituals are nice when people in the building have good morale. When teacher morale is low, and test scores are dropping the happy cheerful performance feels untruthful. Also the public speaking skills feel less substantive because it is kids reading lines written for them usually. They are not speaking from the heart.

We switched to ITDS mid-elementary. Best decision ever. If you can get a spot take it. Plenty of kids leave at 5th for Latin etc so your child will likely move on with new friends as well.

if you go to an elementary school feeder oob you get rights to the middle school
