Mine wrote about their favorite movie, which sounds trite, but the why it was their favorite movie was poignant, related to their future (even though the movie is a fantasy movie), and humorous. Got in ED, so withdrew other applications

My kid wrote about their job but as part of they were humorous, deep and somewhat personal - it was definitely in their own voice and gave you a glimpse of who they are.

DD wrote about her creative art hobby and related online business.

My son wrote about his car, an old beater he bought for $500, and restored. So far he is 5 for 5 with acceptances!

DD wrote about joining Kpop fandom twitter, and how it helped her get through the pandemic.

Mine wrote a meditation about an everyday inanimate object. It was hilarious and very him and also showed a lot about his academic and intellectual interests.

My kid wrote about being in the doghouse because the coach favored another person at my kid's position. My kid wrote about how they felt mistreated throughout the season but that the coach had the right to form lineups as Coach saw fit. However, Coach eventually wanted to enter a competition where my kid and teammates would have been unsafe. Yes, unsafe to themselves and others, full stop. My kid stood up to the coach knowing they'd be thrown off the team.

The coach was trying to cover up their own misunderstanding of eligibility rules for the big competition. They did so by slapping together a makeshift lineup with unqualified individuals included. My kid checked in with the teammates and recognized their fear. They told my kid they didn't want to enter. So my kid told the coach to Coach's face that the lineup was unsafe to themselves and others. My kid did so knowing the coach was vindictive.

Sure enough Coach responded by kicking my kid and the other ones off the team, then lying to tournament officials and other coaches about why there wasn't an entry. Three days after the competition the school parted ways with the coach, and my kid got to compete one more time in the invitational with a qualified lineup. But my kid went forward knowing that they'd suffer tangible consequences for protecting their own teammates and the other teams as well.
