Omg I sort of hope he does, that’s the perfect fit for him.

Reiner’s ultimate skill is just being able to be a mirror that project back onto people. Everyone thinks he’s just like them, despite evidence to the contrary of people that for some reason people just ignore. YIMBYs, cyclists, technocrats, climate activists, etc all somehow think he’s one of them.

His true calling is campaign consultant. He can fundraise and message. You have to give him credit for that. He’s failed at policy so hopefully no one will hire him to do that.
Except his own campaign message was a failure. He’s a bullsh*tter that has mostly gotten away with it because he’s been able to do it with little to no scrutiny. But when people point out that he’s full of it, he turns into a thin skinned prick.
You’re not giving Hans enough credit. He maxed out public matching funds and got 20 percent of the vote even though:
1. He had no accomplishments to speak of during his 12 years on the council. Sure, he sponsored a lot of bills that passed, but then what happened? Nothing.
2. He waffled on so many key issues that he looked like a liar.
3. He handed out outrageous subsidies for millionaires who donated to his first campaign.
That all takes a lot of skill (especially no. 3 — he got a lot of progressives to embrace trickle down economics) and this site doesn’t give Hans enough credit.
I don’t give him credit because he’s a nihilist who understands how to exploit a specific type/class of UMC white people and literally no one else. I have spoken to many people who support him and my conclusion is that its basically out of affinity. They somehow believe that he is just like them and that he’s well intentioned. They’re people who are too busy to care to follow-up on whether he’s actually done anything. And too affluent to care that much because whatever he does or does not do has no affect on them. Perhaps these are the skills of the classic low morals salesman, but no one credits it they disdain it.
That understanding got him three council terms, hundreds of thousands of dollars in public financing, and 20 percent of the vote.
