UMD, Hopkins, Navy… even DC and Georgetown are embedded in Md. They own the Potomac River which is kind of infuriating. Just so arrogant.

In short: Virginians are envious.
They are insecure. And they are frustrated that MD has stereotypes that align with wealth/class while VA has stereotypes that align with redneck conservatism and poverty regardless of the NoVa cost of living.
The bad driver trope is a cover.
Ultimately, it likely comes down to politics.
