NP. This is very typical for CU Boulder. A broad generalization: they use their location to attract OOS $$ rather than using $$ to attract OOS high stats applicants.

That would be my kid. No money from Boulder, and she has a 1500 SAT, weighted GPA of 4.8 and 13 AP classes — all 4s and 5s on the exams. She’d love to go to Boulder but without some $$$, it’s just not going to happen.


So strange. DC is going to wait until the 1st and then check in w their admissions POC.

In case folks are interested in stats, my son was admitted into the computer science major. He has a 3.7 UW (at a large public) and 1380 SAT. He has 6 APs and some honors classes. Pretty good CS ECs with some leadership and post AP CS classes. He did select the BA option (rather than the BS) and is interested in minoring in business.

last year for Fall 2022 entrance, my FCPS 4.0W, 1450 kid got admitted to Exploratory Studies with the $6k/yr merit that came with the acceptance letter. Wanted CS.

Yes, but if you don’t get in, you can join exploratory studies. This is where you basically take gen eds, have to get B grades, then can reapply. Lots of students who apply for the Business and Engineering schools end up in es. Getting in to majors once your in es is not competitive like they only accept x% of applicants, it’s about meeting the minimum qualifications.


I should say “if you don’t get into that major”. Like someone will apply to aerospace engineering, get into CU but not into the engineering school.

Yes, but if you don’t get in, you can join exploratory studies. This is where you basically take gen eds, have to get B grades, then can reapply. I wonder if the acceptance rate went down? I went for my PhD and last time I heard around 65% of out of state applicants and 95% of in state applicants are accepted. Surprised by some of these rejections.

This and the post above it make me think there may still be merit coming. Many schools share merit awards a few weeks after acceptance.


But other posts above said they got the merit today.


Accepted. Got a second letter that said DC would get 6k approx per year ($25k total). The second letter said to apply for further merit aid.
