OP again. The only other bread available in the house were everything bagels.

So I guess the question should really be, what's worse, PB&J on marble rye or PB&J on an everything bagel?

If you pick everything bagel, does it matter if it's toasted or not?

I use rye for all other sandwiches:

- pastrami
- ruben
- turkey
- ham
- grilled cheese
- roasted vegetables
- toast with butter

Just not peanut butter and jelly

I would not choose it, but if it was that or going hungry I could handle it. If someone else likes it, good for them. I would prefer a cheese or roast beef or turkey sandwich if I had to have something on rye. I prefer wheat bread for pbjs

No sourdough and no rye for PB&J. Anything else goes. But there will be people who like it on rye, there's always at least one who marches to a different beat.

Sourdough, white, whole wheat, pretty much anything other than rye.

Yes, but only with unsweetened peanut butter and a less sweet jam like sour cherry or marmalade.

However, I like PB&J a lot so I'm very flexible in how it's implemented. My favourite is probably sweet peanut butter and strawberry jam on homemade challah but that's not exactly healthy.

I love sourdough and rye, but hate the sweetness and gumminess of peanut butter and jam. I don't think it would work, OP, but if YOU like it, eat it! I love Scottish scones with cheddar, so...

This is the only bread we ate when I was a kid and we ate PB&J on it daily. For years. And I hated it and still do. So I vote no.

My kids eat PB&J on whole wheat. But my daughter loves rye bread - go figure - so if she wanted to use that I guess I would. It’s never occurred to her however.
