But there are retakes for the SOLs throughout May and June up to graduation. Seniors can take the SOL up to 4 times in that last testing window if needed and approved

If a student has all the course credits passed for their diploma but haven't passed the testing required, they can walk at graduation with a Certificate of Completion rather than a diploma. They can then come back to school to continue trying to pass the tests while unenrolled. Once they pass the test they need, the school can give them the real diploma.

Let's say your child is in 12th grade and has all credits and is getting the required credit but they have to take 2 SOL they pass 1 which is the writing but doesn't pass the reading. Will they be able to do over or will they have to go to summer school. What would happen?

I came to see if anyone had posted this joke yet:
If the don’t pass, are they SOL?

Requirements are also impacted by when a student entered 9th grade, so it's possible you're thinking of students still on older requirements depending on how long ago this was

Yes, if they enter a VA public school for the first time after the 20th instructional hour in 11th grade, or during 12th grade, they only need 2 verified credits. One has to be an English VC, and one is a student selected test, which doesn't have to be Math, but could be if they choose

Are you sure? I've never heard of that rule and I have had students transfer in from out of state during 11th and they still needed a math SOL.
