Actually we have had Hondas and upgraded to the Acura in 2014. We loved our Hondas, but wanted the quiet ride and luxury of the MDX and have enjoyed it for a number of years. When I get behind the wheel of my son's CRV, it's a decent ride, but sorry, nothing near the luxury of the MDX or RDX for that matter.
I have test driven the BMW X7, Audi Q7, Lexus RX, and Mercedes GLE with open mind, and while I enjoyed the rides of the German cars, none of them, to me, were worth the extra $20K to get the same features as the fully loaded MDX. Plus repairs/reliability issues are something to consider.
OP I am with you although I just switched to Lexus instead of Acura.
We have had Toyotas, Hondas, Acura & Audis.
The Audi's were Q5's 2017 & 2020. Besides great seats and quiet ride, junk is absolute junk. PreSense literally tried to kill me like three times. The 2020 has a recall Audi fixed by putting a ziplock bag over a part. Seriously??!! And our local service for Audi dealer omg beyond bad.
OP our choice was back to Acura MDX or Lexus RX. We switched to Lexus just for a change. We loved our Acura's that by the way went to like 250 miles with no issues. The Audi's less than 30,000 needed tires at 17,000 both years. And do not get me started on how both Audi's needed oil like every month.
We had Lexus, Toyota, Acura, Volvo and bmw. I liked the Acura and the Volvo the best, Toyota and Lexus very close behind. Japanese cars were the winners on easy maintenance and reliability. Volvo was great but cost more to maintain. BMW looked nice.
What is PreSense? Does it brake for you?

The prices aren’t that inflated once you add leather and memory seats to the equivalent Honda.
It's still a Honda.

Not sure, but they compete with GLS 450 and x7 which are about $90k now.
I cannot imagine why anyone would pay $65k for an Acura. The appeal of them was that they were reasonably nice and cheap. You could get them for way under msrp.
Well I am getting $4,000 discount off the sticker price for my fully loaded MDX. I will take that over paying 85,000 for its German counterparts.

We lived in Manhattan with both, and it was a great city car and big enough for road trips with 2 toddlers and a dog. Low maintenance, easy to drive, decent gas mileage. Since we used it mostly in the city, we didn’t want handling that was too sporty. I would get another, but we went ev and won’t go back.
Which EV do you have?

The MDX competes with the X5, not the X7. The X5 does cost a bit more than the MDX, but not $20k more.

I had the opposite reaction. I had an MDX that I loved for years, then when it was time to replace I took a Mercedes for a test drive and couldn’t go back. The features on MDX don’t come close and neither does the ride. Was definitely worth the extra $$ for me.
